23Teens & Parents, Do You Think My Parents Are Being Kinda Unfair?

Soo, I’m part of that rare teenage population who doesn’t have a cell phone. But I want one. I don’t bug my parents about it, I bring it up here and there just to see what they say. Their first excuse was ‘you don;t ned one.’ Fine, I was young whatever. Then, ‘I don’t want to pay the bill’. Okk, then “Its not good for your brain”. I was finally like, make up your mind, which one is it. Then my parents where like, “why, why do you really need one? Make a list over the next little bit of all the times you could need one.” I was like alright, and to be honest, I thought I was never gonna find a need for one. Unntiil I started High School.
Now here’s my list, so far what do you think, good enough reasons?
- If we’re somewhere, and I’m trying to organize something with my friends for the next day/later. (has happened quite a few times already)
- If I decide to go to my friends house afet school (they live super close)
- Decide to go to the school sporting events.(happened today)
-After school activities. ( if I decide to do something on impulse)
I kinda mentioned it earlier today, and shes like “Ooohh, oook” (like yeah right). Like, well you told me to write these things down and now your just going to tell me they’re not good enough?
And I would go use the school phone, but for after school, theres a line, and I don’t want to use the phone, miss my bus and it ends up I can’t stay.

I think your parents are a breed of their own, they are trying to ignore technology. Tell them that cell phones have become the new computers, its it quick communication. They can contact you when they don’t know where you are. Now they are not expensive to purchase or run. I put 10$ on my $100 every month and I get unlimited text messaging and I just don’t talk a lot, therefore you could probably work around the house for like 2 hours to “pay” for the monthly costs.
If they have cell phones throw it in their face…as long as you won’t get in trouble.
say it’s for their peace of mind, they’ll always be able to get ahold of you and they’ll know where you are. They’ll be able to make sure you are safe.
Say it’s for emergency and to be able to get a hold of them anytime you need them.
show ur parents lots of friends do have cell phones… and pay for the fee but not the monthly thing.
say its in case of an emergency
Your list is good but add this to it if u want:
- If you get lost, you might need to call home for directions.
- If you are placed in a bad situation, if you have a cell phone you can call home and ask your parents of what to do from there.
- If you don;t have a cell phone, you have to use the school phone and so everything you say is public.
